How every tile shower is built
Layer · Waterproofing membraneThe build standard.
Every tile build goes over a bonded waterproofing membrane meeting ANSI A118.10, photographed before any tile is set.
Sloped base strategy
- Mortar bed shaped to precise gradient toward drain
- Pre-slope layer verified with level before membrane
- Sloped so water runs to the drain instead of pooling
Bonded waterproof membrane system (ANSI A118.10)
- Full coverage on all wet surfaces — walls, floor, curb
- Seams overlapped and corners sealed with band
- Meets or exceeds ANSI A118.10 waterproofing standard
Drain integration strategy
- Drain collar bonded into membrane system
- Tile cuts precision-fit around drain frame
- Weep holes verified clear before tile installation
Flood test on every tile shower pan
- Water held at least 24 hours, every attempt recorded
- Result recorded with a photo in your Proof Pack
- Waterproofing stage can't close until the latest test passes
Clean finishing standard
- Metal edge profiles at all exposed tile edges
- Consistent grout lines with no lippage
- Caulk joints at all change-of-plane transitions

When Custom Pricing Applies
We verify on-site before locking final scope. These items require a walkthrough to price accurately.
- Priced after a walkthrough
Curbless / zero-entry design
Zero-entry showers require structural assessment, slope engineering, and linear drain integration that varies by home foundation type.
- Priced after a walkthrough
Drain relocation
Moving the drain from its current position requires plumbing rough-in work beneath the subfloor. Cost depends on distance moved and access.
- Priced after a walkthrough
Subfloor damage or rot
If the subfloor is compromised, it must be repaired before any waterproofing or tile work can begin. We document everything with photos before proceeding.
- Priced after a walkthrough
Mold remediation required
Active mold behind walls or under floors must be professionally addressed before new construction. We do not cover over existing mold.
- Priced after a walkthrough
Plumbing rough-in changes
Relocating supply lines, adding body sprays, or changing valve positions requires plumbing work that varies by wall type and pipe material.
- Priced after a walkthrough
Non-standard framing
Walls that are not plumb, out of square, or built with non-standard materials may require framing corrections before tile installation.
- Priced after a walkthrough
Large structural modifications
Expanding the shower footprint, removing walls, or altering load-bearing structure requires engineering review and permitting.
- Priced after a walkthrough
Oversized shower footprints
Showers exceeding standard dimensions may require additional material, labor time, and waterproofing coverage beyond package scope.

Crafted Tile Showers start at from $7,800 for Flat Walls, from $8,500 for Niche Build, from $12,000 for Signature, and a custom quote for curbless / fully Custom builds. Prices include tile material, waterproofing, demo, haul-away and installation, confirmed and locked in writing after a free in-home visit.
Porcelain is denser and absorbs almost no water, making it more durable for showers. Ceramic works well for entry-level builds with proper waterproofing behind it. From Niche Build up, Showerly uses porcelain.
Bonded waterproof membrane systems meeting ANSI A118.10, applied to all shower surfaces before any tile is installed — and photographed before tile goes up.
Timelines depend on scope: Flat Walls 5–7 days, Niche Build 6–8 days, Signature 8–10 days. Custom builds (including curbless) are scheduled after an on-site review. The timeline is confirmed in writing before starting.
Yes. Curbless showers are part of the Custom package. They require structural assessment, slope engineering and linear drain integration, so they are custom-quoted after an on-site review.
Mosaic tiles (1×1 or 2×2 inch) are the standard for shower floors: they follow the slope and give grip through more grout lines.
Only through a change order you approve in writing. If something unexpected is found during demolition, work stops, it is photographed, and you approve a written change order before anything continues.
Showerly serves 12 towns in the Triangle: Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Morrisville, Apex, Holly Springs, Wake Forest, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, Knightdale and Clayton. Free in-home visits are available throughout this service area at no charge.
